Description

BBL™ Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, RODAC™ Plate, Sterile

BBL™ Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) RODAC™ Plates are pre-poured, sterile, contact plates designed for the cultivation and recovery of yeasts and molds from environmental surfaces. These prepared agar plates support routine environmental monitoring programs where the detection of fungal contamination is important, including cleanrooms, controlled manufacturing areas, and general facility hygiene assessments. The RODAC™ (Replicate Organism Detection and Counting) format enables direct surface sampling by gently pressing the agar surface onto the target area to transfer microorganisms for subsequent incubation and enumeration.

Intended use

This product is intended for environmental surface sampling and microbial recovery using a prepared SDA contact plate format. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is a widely used medium for fungi due to its nutrient composition and pH characteristics that favor fungal growth. After sampling and incubation under appropriate conditions, colonies may be observed and counted to help assess environmental bioburden trends and the effectiveness of cleaning and disinfection procedures.

Product format and design

RODAC™ plates are manufactured with a raised agar surface to maximize contact with flat or gently contoured sampling sites. The contact plate design helps standardize sampling by providing a consistent collection area and a convenient, ready-to-use format that reduces preparation steps and improves workflow efficiency. Each plate is supplied sterile and pre-filled with prepared Sabouraud Dextrose Agar to help support reliable recovery when used according to established laboratory procedures.

Key features

  • Prepared SDA medium to support the growth and recovery of yeasts and molds from sampled surfaces.
  • RODAC™ contact plate configuration for direct surface sampling and colony enumeration.
  • Sterile, ready-to-use format to reduce handling, preparation time, and contamination risk associated with media pouring.
  • Environmental monitoring suitability for routine trending of fungal contamination in controlled and general environments.
  • Consistent sampling surface designed to promote reproducible contact with the test area.

Typical workflow

  1. Select a clean, flat target surface area appropriate for contact sampling.
  2. Remove the plate lid and gently press the raised agar surface onto the surface to be tested using consistent pressure and contact time per your SOP.
  3. Replace the lid, label the plate, and transport to the incubator as specified by your environmental monitoring program.
  4. Incubate under conditions suitable for fungal recovery and examine for colony development.
  5. Count colonies and record results to support quality monitoring, investigation, and trend analysis.

Applications

  • Cleanroom and controlled environment fungal surveillance.
  • Facility hygiene verification on work surfaces, equipment exteriors, and nonporous areas.
  • Monitoring of environmental bioburden where yeast and mold detection is required.
  • Support of contamination control strategies and routine microbiological trending.

Handling and storage

Handle plates using aseptic technique and follow institutional procedures for storage, sampling, incubation, and disposal. Do not use plates that show signs of damage, dehydration, contamination, or expiration. After incubation and reading, dispose of used plates as biohazardous waste in accordance with applicable regulations and facility policies.

Summary

BBL™ Sabouraud Dextrose Agar RODAC™ Plates provide a convenient, sterile, prepared agar solution for environmental surface sampling and fungal recovery. The contact plate design supports consistent sampling and efficient processing, making it a practical choice for environmental monitoring programs focused on yeasts and molds.
